Light Bringer - Monument (CD/DVD edition)
Spinalcord - Remember Me 'Till Your Dying Day
Syu - Crying Stars: Stand Proud!

The Light Bringer came with a surprise promotional item: an official Light Bringer...file folder. That might be the second most off-the-wall music memorabilia I have at the moment, next to that shard of Andrew WK's stage jeans.

And yes, I do intend to actually use it as a file folder.

Devin Townsend - Z2 (three-disc edition)

And while I normally only post about stuff that I've just physically acquired, I might as well mention that I just preordered the deluxe earbook of Blind Guardian's upcoming album and I am hyped. I know it doesn't come out until the end of January (and I'll post about it when it does come), but when you want those earbooks, you've gotta be quick.

A Call To Sincerity - Foundations

This one needs a bit of explaining, because obscure metalcore isn't normally anywhere near my field. This band did a song with my cousin on guest vocals (My cousin was the bassist/clean vocalist for the Toronto-based metalcore group Structures until their most recent album), and given ACTS only had one CD, I figured it must be on this one. Well, after I ordered it, I found out that the song they did with him is only available on a digital download recorded later in that year. So...here I am with this CD I only ordered because I didn't quite do good enough research. Oh well. I'll give it some spins, see if it has something I like.

Ceremonial Castings - Cthulhu
Mysticism Black - The Dark Erudition

I love metal based on Lovecraft, so that CC concept album is just the ticket. The second album came free with it, which I always appreciate when it happens. They're both black metal, so not this board's forte, though an interesting thing is that the CC album has a second disc with just the isolated keyboard track, for keyboard aficionados.

Striker - Eyes Of The Night

And a bottle of Bruce Dickinson's Trooper beer, because why not.

Metroid Metal - Game Of The Year
Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen

Metroid Metal is, fittingly enough, a band that does metal covers of music from the Metroid game series. Game Of The Year puts their first full-length, Varia Suite, along with their follow-up EP Expansion Pack in one digipak. Nice stuff!

Also, big news for Keldian fans: the Keldian trilogy is going to be given long-overdue CD reissues in early 2015! Outbound, here I come!

Never heard of Metroid Metal! How do they compare to Powerglove or Mega Driver?

I've followed Metroid Metal since back when they were an online-only project, so they were the very first "video games + metal" project that I heard. So take this with a grain of bias, but I love 'em :) They're more "serious" than Powerglove, in that Powerglove are all about having fun with the fusion of nostalgic melodies and metalized riffs, whereas Metroid Metal are more about trying to take the Metroid soundtracks to new places. I recommend it.
